Ever since the first artificial satellite was put on an orbit around Earth, what at first seemed as a scientific peculiarity turned into an essential piece of technology that transformed our daily lives. With the advent of geostationary satellites, global communications became much simpler, as well as much cheaper. New possibilities beckoned for an old acquaintance of ours: television.
